Discord Components Peeper Stem

You know a stem is good when it takes design inspiration from milk cartons. Actually the Peeper stem just has a vague machined milk carton vibe. Not in a bad way. Who didn’t love cafeteria chocolate milk that came in that little cardboard carton?

Pretty much everyone needs this stem, or the 0mm version, which we call the Creemee Stem. If you are riding a bike that’s too reach-y with bars that are too low, then you need this stem. I see loads of folks riding poorly fitting bikes. Most of them, really. Especially when drop bars are in play.

Have a friend take a picture of you riding in your hoods and in your drops. If you look like your shoulders are trying to have a make out sesh with your ears, or your elbows are locked, or you look like you are trying to emulate super man, these are all signs your stem is too long and or too low down. Do your hands ever hurt or go numb? Do you shake em out? How bout your neck? How’s that feel at the end of a long ride? Can you ride for 30 minutes in the drops without pain? Can ya breathe down there? What about the hoods? Do you ride there often, or back on the back of the drop bar? Ever do that thing where you stick your fingers out so only your fingers are touching the bar, not your palm? Any of those means you need your bars closer and higher.

Bike geometry was refined and sort of finalized in the 1980’s. It was designed around a 5’ 10”, fit dude who weighs around 155lbs. Funny thing is, there are very few non-racers who fit that bill. Even those that do, could benefit from a shorter reach stem and higher bars.

Who wants to be uncomfortable?

Here, buy these shoes that are too small for you, it’ll be great!

You have to wear a corset to fit in these jeans? Sign me up!

To which we say: that’s stupid. You should be comfortable and happy on your bike.

Back to the stem: It’s 75mm tall from bottom of stem to center of bars.

1 ⅛ steerer tube.

Aluminum or Steel steerers only.

31.8mm bar clamp. If you have Spank Flare bars, you will have undo your bar tape to the hoods, and probably the electrical tape because of the clamp design.

4 bolt, so you can use a two piece shim if you want to shim these down to 25.4 or 26mm.

50mm wide clamp

You can run 8mm of spacers above the stem IF you use thin spacers, like the Deity, White Industries or Simworks headset spacers. It will NOT accept standard spacers above the stem clamp.

30mm extension.

We pre-grease the bolts, so just install it with a torque wrench and you are set.

Safe to ride off road, within reason. Not made for big drops, this IS NOT an enduro or downhill stem. It’s a trail stem.

US engineered + made + anodized. Engineering and fab by Swift Design Works, which is a one person design and fab shop in New Jersey.
