Disc brakes generate huge forces on the hub / axle / quick release interface.  So why is it that 99% of quick release skewers out there use the wildly inferior external cam style?  External cams have less clamping power than internal cams, and they degrade with dirt and age.  It’s a known nerd fact that bikes with external cams and discs have an issue with the dropouts wallowing out with time, as the axle beats around in the dropout.  Just ask Leonard Zinn, he’ll tell you it’s not an isolated incidence, and no frame material is immune to it.

So why?  Because of two factors.  People are weight weenies, cause the media tells them to be, as if quick release weight mattered, and cost.  And it’s cheap to make a light weight external cam QR. It’s way more expensive to make an internal cam.  Shimano makes a fine one, but they’re increasingly hard to get.  Paul makes a nice one, but they’re obviously very expensive.  These Bitex quick releases are our favorite skewers that won’t make your accountant blush.  Internal cam, subtle, steel dropout plates so they bite into the dropout.  That’s a good thing, means they grip.  Steel axle, cause Ti axles flex and stretch.  With a modicum of care, this a quarter century quick release.  Stock up on them, just in case Bitex discontinues them for some terrible reason.
