The Pat Mat was originally conceived by my buddy Pat, who is just about the best fella to take into the woods, as he's both good at building fires and likes eating blueberry pie warmed over said fire. Pat threw an old chunk of yoga mat in the bottom of his Wald basket one day. It was always handy: padding whatever was in his basket, then doubling as a sit mat. I resolved to refine that idea, and lo, after many years, Ariel at Fifth Season made it happen.
Other legit uses for a Pat Mat: Take the yoga mat out when you are camping and use it as a small door mat for your tent. Then stuff a few T shirts in the empty case for a cozy pillow.
Four birch wood toggles (also made in Middlebury Vermont) lock it in place, dead simple install and removal, but it won't fall out no matter how much you jiggle it around.
Cleaned and recycled double thick yoga mat filler. Waxed canvas on one side, Johnson Woolen Mills (of Vermont) blanket wool on the other side. Waxed cotton side against the ground so it doesn't sop up too much ground moisture, and wool on other side for cozy sits year round. You can replace the yoga mat if it ever gets clapped out.
Recently, Fifth Season moved one step closer to a fully plastics free line of goods. One of the major sticking points was the nylon label. Now the labels are hand screen printed using non-toxic paint on cotton.
Fifth Season Pat Mats are made in Middlebury VT by Ariel in a one gal workshop.
Fits Wald 137 Medium full and half (racer) baskets.
