Rollcii RDA21 700c Rim (Rim Brake)

I had an aha moment as a result of being chased by a bear through a meadow at 3am while riding a loaded touring bike.   In said chase, I ran over an unseen log and really knackered my Mavic Open Sport rim, which had previously (along with the Open Pro) been my benchmark high quality road rim.  I was riding a Rivendell, roads and fire roads as normal fare.  I replaced the cased Mavic with a Velocity Quill rim, newly released at the time.  The rims (I replaced them both) were a revelation.  Stiff.  Tracked much better in all conditions, hard corners, loaded or not, rough terrain or smooth.  They felt faster (because stiff rims feel fast).  I was sold.  Big internal cavity rims are strong with no downsides.  The Rivendell rode SO MUCH BETTER.  After that, I sort of wrote off box section rims.  I stand by that.  Contemporary rims are better.  Stronger.  Stiffer.  Easier to built into nice wheels.

The Rollcii RDA21 is basically a Taiwanese Quill rim.  That's a good thing.  The Taiwanese know how to make great rims.  The best rims we've ever used are made in Taiwan (Spank / Fratelli).  We've used Rollcii rims for dozens of nice builds, and reach for them just as often as we reach for Velocity rims.  Snag a pair of these Rollcii rims and you save 130 dollars over non polished Quill rims, and 230 dollars off the polished quills.  These are some where between polished and not.  I'd say it's a very fine brushed finish, with a clear anodization.  Machined brake track, as it should be.  Pinned like the Quills are.

Studio lighting does not do these rims justice.  The rim seam is much less noticeable in person, again, I'd say it's as good as Velocity.  The sticker looks like it's white in these pics, but it's clear, and the flash just catches it oddly.  The Rollcii actually looks more like it's painted on, and less like a sticker.  I like how subtle the graphics are, but you can peel them with a hair drier if you want.
