There are more good rims these days than bad ones.  The ‘igloo’ rim profile that disc brakes allow for makes it relatively easy to make a nice rim that’s strong and stiff.  For years our go to rim for bike packing and ATB bikes was the Velocity Blunt 35.  It’s still fine, but I like the finish of these Rollcii rims more.  They’re also more affordable, and eyeleted, both of which are good features.  Eyelets make for a smoother wheel build, as they reduce friction at the rim/nipple interface.  That means it’s easier to get the rim to higher tension.

The black rims are a sort of glossly deep black.  The Silver rims are a lightly brushed silver finish that is almost a polish.  They look as nice as polished rims, but cost way less.

30mm inner width, same as a Blunt 35.  You can run up to a 3” tire at 12 psi on these and they feel solid.  Use a tire insert like a cush core at that pressure.  No tire inserts needed at 15 psi if you are a smooth rider less than 200 lbs.

Beefy enough for loaded bike packing on mountain bike trails.  523 grams in the 650b version and 549 in 29’er mode.  That’s 40 grams less than a Blunt 35, for the record.

We like to lace these up with Bitex hubs and either CX Ray or Pillar Quad Butted spokes.  If you wanna go with a generator front hub and live somewhere dry, get an SP and save some $.  If you live somewhere cold and or wet, get the Schmidt hub, as it has superior bearing seals so the generator guts won’t rot out.

29" or 650b.
