Green Grips Bar Tape

Who woulda thought that in 20-whatever there would be more than zero cloth handlebar tape makers? For a long time it was just Tressostar tape, which you were lucky to get in any color other than black. It was sorta like wrapping your bars in 100 grit sand paper, unless you shellaced it with 15 layers of NOS 1982 French shellac. And then it was somehow both sticky and slick.

Then Newbaum’s started to make handlebar tape. It’s good, we stock it. If you want the toughest cloth bar tape, get Newbaum’s. Green Grips tape is thinner, way softer. The colors are more varied, and it wraps easier. It’s plenty long even for wide bars (except maybe the Crust Leather Bar). It’s US made. We dig it a lot. I wrote this article for Green Grips a few years ago, but it waxes on about how great Green Grips tape is, and if you have time to kill, go read it. Green grips tape, like all cotton tape, fades over time.

We sell this by the pair. You need two rolls per bike. The price listed is for 2 rolls. We like to finish it with hemp twine, super glue gel is also your friend there.

Analog generally wraps this over the excellent Fizik bar gel, and then coats with 2-3 layers of clear shellac (to preserve the original vibrance of each color, also helps with fading). Glitter is optional (barely).
