Woo, they called it Space Light! You know it’s good. Strap this to the front of your handlebar and pretend like other cyclists are Soviet spy satellites. Blast them with 150 lux of pure German space power! Pew Pew! Lasers don’t make sound in space, so you have to do it yourself, with your mouth. Let’s examine the Ixon part of this light. What does Ixon mean? It’s pronounced Icks On, so it’s obviously something gross that you bought at Spencers that you smear on your 8th grade math teachers’ chair. When they go to the teachers lounge later, they'll turn heads and noses.
Okay. About the light. I’ll lay it on real quick, I have stuff to do. Mainly get a haircut. It’s friggin’ outta control. Haircuts are touch and go when you don’t have a shower, just a hose connected to a frog pond. Trust me on that.
Back to the light. It’s bright. I ride with a 90 lux generator light (Edelux II) and folks routinely mistake me for a car. This is 60 lux brighter, which means it’s insanely bright. Unlike most lights though, the Ixon Space has a shaped beam, like the low beam of an automobile. You won’t blind oncoming drivers or riders. That’s good. You want them to see you, not be blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce (we all know what he was really singing there), another runner in the night… god I hate that song. Does anyone actually like it? I bet Manfred Mann gags on his ice cream float everytime he hears that song on the radio. Which is why he has not owned a radio for the past 44 years. He wants to enjoy that ice cream float, damn it.
The light has a lithium ion battery, which is rechargeable. Comes with a USB cord to do that. Also comes with a handlebar clamp, of course. The light can be used like a cache battery so you can charge your phone while riding. Cause what’s more important, your Strava record, or having a light? Obviously safety comes second. 2.5 hour burn time at 150 lumens, and there are a few other power settings that last longer.
The light quick releases off the bars when you wanna bring it into the yurt to charge it.
Is this light 170 dollars more than a 1000 lumen light from some other brand? Yes. It is. But those other brands have round lenses, which are super cheap to make, and they blind drivers. Fine for singletrack, bad for pretty much everything else. They also can’t act like a cache battery. The Busch and Muller Ixon Space is also made in Germany. Almost every other light out there is made in China. Wanna guess which place has better environmental controls, workers rights, pay, benefits, and schnitzel? Support the Schnitzel! Buy this light (from us!)!
UPDATE: I put this light on a bike I never ride, namely a fat bike, and leave it out my Racoon infested storage shed. You can't kick em out, they're too damn cute. Despite it being really, really cold out, the battery, after a month, is still at 95%, which is exactly what I left it at last time I commuted to work with it. Impressive.
