Fifth Season Squall Sack (All Grey)

$115

The Fifth Season Squall Sack ditches the dicey plastic fabrics in favor of waxed cotton, a bomber brass clasp and buttery-smooth hemp webbing roll-top closure. Weatherproof, but not a dry sack you can huck in the river and use as a flotation device.

With a quick rewax every now and then, it'll be your trusty companion for the long haul.  We've seen plenty of waxed bags that are 50+ years old and still serviceable.  Do an ebay search for Barbour or Filson vintage bags to see what I mean.  Then do a search for 70's panniers.  There are a few, but way less, because unless it's stored in an archival way, plastic fabrics become useless over time.  I've never had an Xpac product last more than two seasons in Vermont without delaminating.

The Squall Sack isn't some mass-produced bag. Each one is meticulously hand-crafted in Middlebury, Vermont, by one gal with a passion for two-wheeled adventures.

Versatility? This sack has it in spades. Side loops with brass snaps clip it onto your trusty Wald basket (full or half, it's not picky), while a side loop transforms it into a shoulder bag in a flash. Town rides? Secure it with the loops. Thrash metal descents? Throw a strap over the top and hold on tight.

Big or smallish. Need less space? Simply roll it down and keep on cruising. And say goodbye to leaky internal pockets (more seams, more trouble).

Works with either the full or half height wald medium 137 basket.
