There are many fine greases out there, and we’ve used more than a few of them. The Wolf Tooth WT-G grease is a long lasting, waterproof grease made for bearings, assembly, freehub pawls, pivots, etc. Don’t use it on cables or your chain, but it’s fine for threaded surfaces, seals, repacking bearings, that sort of thing. Long lasting, doesn’t get all weird and grey or black with use.
Hot tip: if you are repacking bearings, loose or sealed, don't stuff the bearing full of grease. Aim for 80-90 percent fill. If it the grease is squishing out when you stick the seals back on, you have too much. That allows dirt to 'bridge' past the seal by sort of riding grease back into the bearing.
Apply with your roommate’s tooth brush. Clean up with a rag.
