Nitto F25 Front Rack

If you like strong, well engineered bike touring racks, then you probably have heard a few names kicked around. Old Man Mountain, Tubus, Bruce Gordon, Pass and Stove, and Nitto. All these makers have aspects that are admirable. Old Man Mountain makes a rack that you can mount on almost any bike. Tubus makes light and stiff and repairable racks in Germany. They're industrial looking but well made. No frills. Bruce Gordon unfortunately no longer makes racks, and Pass and Stow are one of the very few US rack makers out there, making nice custom racks for all sorts of purposes. But we reckon the best of the best is Nitto. They are not the lightest. They are not the stiffest (although they are plenty stiff) but they are the most elegant, the nickel finish is superlative, the filet brazing is strong, easily repaired and gorgeous, the hardware is without par and the thoughtfulness of the racks is without equal. They're as perfect as a bike part can be.

The Nitto F25 is made for 26" wheels and fenders. That means it can also fit on bikes with 650b tires up to 43mm with a fender, or 700c tires up to 28mm with a fender. It'll look silly with the latter, as the rack is pretty wide, but we've mounted these on fattish 650b set ups, and it looks great.

The upper platform of the rack is perfect for zip tying a Wald basket on, or strapping a tent or sleeping bag or crate of fine cheese. The low rider section is big enough for big Ortlieb panniers, but smaller ones work fine too. The low rider part is heavily triangulated for stiffness. I've seen kids sit on this rack and be ridden down a bumpy dirt road. It's strong.

Attaches to rear fork fender eyelets. Wanna mount a fender too? Drill (then rat tail file out) a hole a centimeter above the hole just barely big enough for an M5 bolt. Then push an M5 bolt thru after mounting the fender, and back it with a washer and nut. You need a sharp bit, but it works well and looks fine. The other mounting point is up either at the low rider mounts or to the cantilever brake studs. We prefer the brake studs, if you have them, as they are very strong and stiff.

We have Euro Asia Imports bring these in just for us. I suppose other folks can buy them too, but we asked nicely, and they agreed to import them. Very rad!
