Philip Mahar, who works here part time during the year and semi full time during the summer, makes good maple syrup down the road in Middletown Springs. We ride by his family farm on the regular on our dirt road rides. Philip, for the record, rides a Hardtack and races it, against other fast kids, in collegiate mountain races. He’s the only one with: no suspension fork, no suspension out back, mechanical disc brakes, no dropper, drop bars and a steel frame. Maybe that’s a trivia question later, I don’t know. He likes to ride wheelies up hills.
The maple leaf filled with syrup is a great gift for someone you like, but not enough to get them a big bottle of syrup. Or for traveling. My grandmother, abhorring faux maple syrup, would travel with a bottle like this in her purse to adorn her restraunt pancakes properly. I’d wager a bottle is two servings of pancakes, or 6 maple coffees.
