I always thought, as a kid, that Ragg wool was Rag wool, like cheap, bad wool made of rags.  Turns out, it’s not.  It currently just means two yarns of dyed wool to one yarn of undyed wool.

It comes from the Old Norse rögg, which means shaggier than a mug.  Ragg wool is my favorite wool.  I have this idea that if wool is slightly itchy, it’s warmer.  Try just a quick 10 second scratch on your arm.  Gets warmer right?  Irritating the skin, lightly, is how embrocation works, and folks love that snake oil.  The higher the wool count, the more the glove or sock can absorb moisture and not feel clammy town / cold.  These Fox River gloves are 85% wool, which is durn high, and they’re warmer and better for it.

Grippy dot palms mean no slip, even if its wet out.  Good fall / spring or pogie gloves.  Temp range guestimate:  55 to 40 with no pogies, 40 to 15 with pogies.

US made, by Fox River, who has been making wool socks and gloves since 1900.  Fox River’s factory employs 200 folks (Rad!) and is 100% powered by renewable energy.
