deity-flat-trak-pedals
Deity Flat Trak Pedals

Let's pretend these Deity Flat Trak pedals are an homage to turn of the last century flat track bike racing. They're not, but let's just pretend. Back in Frederick Maryland, where I spent many years of my life toiling in a 'normie' bike shop, there was a guy named Mic who did a bit of digging (and a bit of drinking) and discovered that Frederick used to have a flat track circuit, not for motos, but for bikes. It was part of the Frederick Wheelmen, or as we'd call them today, Wheelfolk. He had some old negatives, which we blew up with M80s, wait no with a scanner, and had some rad poster sized images. Anyway, I love the idea of folks racing fixed gear big tired bikes around a dirt flat track in 1907 or whatever. Let's bring that back. Ideally racers have to be actively smoking unfiltered cigs and also be dabbling lightly in strychnine.

What's the Deity Flat Trak pedal about? It's big. We don't do small pedals here, and really, the bigger the better. The whole sized pedal thing is naff. If your pedal is smaller than your shoe, it could be bigger. Let's do a quick size comparison, because why not? Who doesn't like to base purchasing decisions on percent difference calculations?

The Flat Trak has 115.5 square cm of usable footing area. Compared to our other fav Deity pedals, that's 13.4% bigger than the Black Kat, and .77% smaller than the Deftrap. However, they're 22% thinner than the Deftraps, and I'd argue, 100% more swank.

Thin pedals means good ground clearance. Big pedals means support and foot comfort. These pedals are made for gnar rides on big travel bikes, that means for you and I, just puttering around in the woods, you have traction for days. Or as Deity might say it, Trakshun 4 Dayz.

We say: every Deity pedal we've used has always lasted for a long time, and when the bearings are clapped, they're easy to rebuild. Deity is our longest serving pedal provider, and everytime I'm like we should switch things up, I bag the idea, cause Deity pedals just work so well.

Why are these more expensive than the Black Kat? If nothing else the finish is nicer. It's not shot peened, its a beautiful almost polishined finish that's then anodized with rich ano colors. They look like a premium pedal. They are, but they look it too!

Normally I'd list all the things this pedal is good at, but I'll just list one it's not good out. Normal road racing. I'd use it for literally everything else.
