I’ve already told my Apex theatre story in the Apex brifter write up, so go read that for funny ha ha stuff.
Very quick low down on the Apex 1x11 rear derailleur (long cage). It’s the same as the SRAM Force and Rival rear mech, 95% of the important ways. Let’s say 99% of the important ways. I can’t think of the 1%, so it can’t be that big a deal.
Bike mechanics who know the ONE TRUE WAY know that the current crop of Apex 1x long cage mechs will shift to a 51t rear cog, not 42t like it says on the can. Not only does it shift to a 51t, but it does so in a predictable and normal way. That’s because in all of the important ways, it’s the same as an 11 speed SRAM GX rear mech. The big diff is just the cable pull is different between the two mechs, but the rest of the geo is the same. So same shifting.
The Apex is less spendy than the Rival or Force mech because of materials used in it’s construction. More plastic and steel, like aluminum and carbon. Works fine. Might not last quite as long, but I’ve never seen one wear out, and SRAM mechs from the 90’s that were made of plastic are still kicking. So put that in your handlebar and smoke it.
Shell of the nut: Good budget rear mech. Actually good. Not pretend good, like those WOW chips that caused… well, you know the story.
