Badger Anti-Bug Spray

DEET is what you need to go deep in the jungle / swamp / Florida to keep the bugs away.  It’s proven that Ron DeSantis will stay at least three inches away from you if you spray him with DEET.   But for most folks, mosquitoes and DeSantis are a nuisance, not a life or death kinda thing.  I’d actually rather be in a room with 1000 mosquitoes than one Ron DeSantis, but let’s move on.

DEET melts plastic.  Most outdoor gear is made of plastic, nylon, polyester, dyneema.  So if you go to bed with DEET on your skin, your sleeping bag can literally melt into you.  Happened to a gal that used to work here, and it has happened to countless other folks who didn’t read the label.  In my book, if it melts plastic, you probably don’t want it on your skin.  Plus, DEET feels slimy, and smells bad.  Badger, maker of Badger Balm and other such hippie Co-op staples, makes this fine bug spray.  Smells decent, like herbs.  Works fine for about an hour or so, then you re-apply.  I just spray the brim and top of my hat, and my socks and call it good, but do what you want.  Mainly even the best bug spray just keeps you from getting bitten.  They won’t keep you from getting swarmed, dive bombed, etc.  You need a mosquito net for that.  Vermont isn’t too bad in the mosquito zone, but Maine, the Adirondacks, etc, often have ‘em real bad.  If you are traveling somewhere and people have talked about the bugs, it’s probably bad.

This Anti Bug Spray is a small bottle, travel sized.  Good for say, 2 people and buggy 2 week trip.
